Italy was the best team from goalkeeper Zoff right through to Rossi……world class full-backs, best libero in the world, world class midfielders and a top drawer goal-getter…maybe the ONLY weak link was Graziani who replaced the injured Bettega but was nowhere near as talented

Italy beat Argentina, Brazil, Poland and West Germany…that’s luck? Italy deservedly beat Brazil in 82…watch the game. Brazil 82 best defence ever??? Best team ever??? What about Brazil 58 and 70?

  3. January 4th, 2009 at 09:28 | #3

I still remember this world cup.
what a game, what a match!
Italy introduce a new strategy: strong and annoying pressure, like that they defeated Brazil.
Brazilian coach prefered Serginho (he was hopeless) instead of Roberto Dinamita, a real area predator.
    Beautiful world cup !!!

Italy the best? LOL they couldn’t even touch Brazil’s foot.

Luck is the prime for a World Cup.

just look at germany ‘90. LUCK.
Argentina in ‘86. LUCK(or CHEAT in the bad term).

This Brazil was by far the best team EVER. best defense EVER, best midfield EVER, Attack was SO powerful and Zico was PERFECT in the freekicks.

No team will EVER reach this amazingness.
Lost ’cause Luck didn’t smile for Brazil.

Hey its not sad, at all, it heappens! and so often!

you mean fifa punished russia for its politics? i don’t think so, it’s just usual ref screws you if you play against brazil

  7. January 14th, 2009 at 08:57 | #7

no, its probably because of politics, if you know what i mean.

  8. January 16th, 2009 at 22:34 | #8

  9. January 20th, 2009 at 01:34 | #9

brazil lost cause italy was the best, which they showed in their game against brazil. Forza Azzurri, campioni del mondo !

  12. January 26th, 2009 at 07:24 | #12

Brazil lost the World Cup in 1982 because of waldir peres(goalkeeper) and serginho(forward), besides of them, Brazil was the best team in 1982 for sure.

É verdade, mas naquela época não se tinha recursos gráficos pra dizer se foi ou não impedimento. Até no jogo da Itália teve um 4º gol anulado.
Até mesmo a transmissão da tv espanhola só tinha o angulo de traz do gol.

  15. February 2nd, 2009 at 18:52 | #15

I agree..if Careca had played in this worldcup, Brazil would have won for sure,

  17. February 8th, 2009 at 09:29 | #17

I heard a rumour that rival striker Roberto Dinamente’s wife put a voodoo curse on Careca in the training camp. And then he obliged and broke his leg!

  18. February 9th, 2009 at 01:03 | #18

He was actually in the plans for the 1982 World Cup, but got injured - he made his debut in 1982 just before the finals in Spain - he was raw back then, but still better than Serginho!

  19. February 10th, 2009 at 05:21 | #19

best goalkeepers ever to come out of brazil were felix and julio cesar, dida is shite

  20. February 11th, 2009 at 20:16 | #20

careca wasnt in the squad until mexico 86

  21. February 14th, 2009 at 18:47 | #21

Jogo complicado, e o juíz deixou de dar um penalti pra USSR

  22. February 17th, 2009 at 19:03 | #22

nevermind.. the third one was NASTY

  23. February 19th, 2009 at 12:06 | #23

    the second one was nasty

  24. February 22nd, 2009 at 23:49 | #24

    What a fucking lousy goalkeeper!!!

  25. February 23rd, 2009 at 06:45 | #25

Brazil would have won this World Cup had Careca not been injured - they had to play with that useless Serginho up front instead!
